RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Jake LaMotta has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of New York City's Lower east Side, Jake LaMotta was raised in the Bronx; and
WHEREAS, Jake LaMotta was a middleweight champion whose life was depicted in the 1980 movie "Raging Bull," which was based on his memoir; and
WHEREAS, Known as the "Bronx Bull, Jake LaMotta compiled an 83-19-4 record with 30 knockouts during a career that spanned from 1941 to 1954; and
WHEREAS, Renowned for his toughness, Jake LaMotta was knocked down only once in his 106 fights during a boxing match with Danny Nardico; and
WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the ring, Jake LaMotta owned a nightclub and found work in show business and commercials; and
WHEREAS, The boxing skill and dedication of Jake LaMotta serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jake LaMotta to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his fiancee, Denise Baker, and his four daughters, Jacklyn, Christi, Elisa and Miay, Jake LaMotta imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby commemorate Jake LaMotta for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
