Resolution Honoring Juvenal Gomez, Jr.



WHEREAS, Juvenal Gomez, Jr. has been an extraordinary volunteer in his community;
and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Mr. Gomez's incredible contributions by the Honorable Raymond Lopez, Alderman of the 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Juvenal Gomez, Jr. was born to Gabriela Gomez and the late Juvenal Gomez, Sr., on February 14, 1964 in Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Juvenal moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1976 to look for his father and at age 12 Juvenal he began to work unloading trailers. He attended Seward Academy and then Tilden High School, where he continued his passion for soccer. After graduating from Tilden, he had to put his education on hold so that he could work and make a living for himself; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Juvenal was at Sunday morning mass at Holy Cross Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. At the end of the service, it was mentioned that Serafin Pilero was looking for youth to play in his soccer league at Davis Square Park; Juvenal signed his son up to play in the league; and
WHEREAS, that same year, Juvenal began to volunteer part time for the league and by the following year was a full-time volunteer. Eventually, he became the leader of the Davis Square Park soccer league; and
WHEREAS, He has worked tirelessly to enable youth to play soccer. Not only does he coach soccer, but he also instills respect and teaches leadership; and
WHEREAS, his hard work has been noticed beyond Davis Square Park .Now, he also works at Kelly Park and La Villita Park. In his humble, passionate way, Juvenal has enhanced the lives of thousands of youth through soccer; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eleventh day of October, 2017, do hereby express our extreme gratitude to Juvenal Gomez, Jr. for his lasting contributions to youth in Chicago.
