RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Irving J. Rein, a world class instructor and an internationally acclaimed leader in academia, has celebrated the joyful occasion of his 80th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Roberto Maldonado: and
WHEREAS, Irving J. Rein serves as a Professor of Communications Studies at Northwestern University where he specializes in communication strategies within popular culture; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago to Ethel and Sidney Rein on September 16, 1937, Irving J. Rein was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is the proud and loving father of two talented children, Perry and Lauren; and
WHEREAS, Irving J. Rein has shared his love for communication and sharp wit with generations of students; and
WHEREAS, As a faculty member at Harvard University, Irving J. Rein instructed students such as Vice President Al Gore and actor Tommy Lee Jones in the public speaking program; and
WHEREAS, At Northwestern University, Irving J. Rein has taught the same course since 1969 which is the longest-running class at the university; and
WHEREAS, The author of 13 books, Irving J. Rein has been a much sought-after consultant to many corporations as well non-profit organizations in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Argentina and Panama; and
WHEREAS, Irving J. Rein was an advisor to the campaigns of Harold Washington, Richard M. Daley, Adlai Stevenson III, Paul Simon, Neal Hartigan, Dan Hynes and Lisa Madigan; and
WHEREAS, For 15 years Irving J. Rein conducted public communication seminars for astronauts at NASA;and
WHEREAS, Irving J. Rein was a recipient of the National Speakers Association's Outstanding Professor Award for 1999-2000 and the Clarence Simon Award for Outstanding Teaching ad Mentoring in the School of Communication in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Irving 3. Rein is an individual who is exceedingly worthy of our admiration and esteem; now, therefore
