WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is upon us as we bring attenfdrKo this deadly medical condition; and
WHEREAS, If not detected early, breast cancer is a serious medical condition; it is the second most common cancer among women; and
WHEREAS, According to the American Cancer Society, every two minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, Medical professionals have determined that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes; and

WHEREAS, In 2017 alone, the American Cancer Association estimates that 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States. An estimated 2,350 new cases will be diagnosed in men this year; and
WHEREAS, The importance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to inform the public at large that breast cancer, if detected early, can be treated successfully in almost all cases; and
WHEREAS, The roots of breast cancer awareness can be traced back at least as far as October 1983. when Race for the Cure first occurred; and

WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in October 1985 to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer. This is the best test for early detection of breast cancer, when it is much easier to treat; and
WHEREAS, In 1991 pink ribbons were first used in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month for distribution to all breast cancer survivors and participants at the Komen New York City Race for the Cure; and
WHEREAS, The National Football League has contributed its significant platform to the cause of Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 2009. The NFL has encouraged its players to wear pink apparel, and NFL football fields display the pink ribbon symbolic of the fight against breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been a tremendous success, leading to far more women getting early checkups and ultimately leading to fewer premature deaths; now, therefo...
