MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR ROSE WANDEL
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the death of Rose Wandel (nee Dick) on September 30, 2017 at the age of 97; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on September 10, 1920, Rose was the beloved daughter of the late Lena and the late Harry Dick; adoring wife of Joseph; doting mother of David (Mary), Joyce (the late Joel Alston) and Barton (Janet Resnick); cherished grandmother and aunt of five, blessed great-grandmother to seven and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rose leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love and
WHEREAS, Family was the core of Rose's life but her most valued role was as an active community member and leader with goals of improving social justice and quality of life. A few of her many achievements included presidential terms for the North River Commission, developing and implementing a senior meds safety program, facilitating the donation of funds and planning that brought Chicago it's downtown Cancer Survivors Park on the lakefront and converting the old city municipal TB sanitarium into the multi-use North Park Village site; and
WHEREAS, Rose received many awards including the Chicago's Senior Citizens Award and a recipient of the National Council for Jewish Women Hannah G. Solomon Award, which acknowledges those who have changed the lives of others through leadership and service; and
WHEREAS, Rose touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, generosity and vivacious spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
