CONGRATULATING SAINT EDWARD SCHOOL ON BEING NAMED AS AN EXEMPLARY
HIGH PERFORMING BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL FOR 2017
WHEREAS, On Sunday, October 29th, 2017, St. Edward Parish and School Community were honored to have the Most Reverend Francis J. Kane, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, celebrate the prestigious award bestowed by the United States Department of Education, the Blue Ribbon for Exemplary Education; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of the significant honor bestowed upon the Saint Edward School by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward,; and
WHEREAS, For more than thirty years, the United States Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized outstanding public and non-public schools. In identifying several hundred outstanding schools annually, the program celebrates school excellence, turn around stories, and closing subgroup achievement gaps. The Award is both a high aspiration and a potent resource of practitioner knowledge; and
WHEREAS, St. Edward School was founded in 1910 by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois. "Academic Excellence, Christian Values, and a Caring Community" succinctly describe its Mission Statement. It emphasizes educating the whole child: socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically, artistically, and spiritually. It provides a full spectrum of classes in which every student is instilled with life-long learning skills in order to serve one another and the global community. It holds the students to high academic standards, striving for excellence, while preparing them for college and career readiness; and
WHEREAS, Saint Edward School (affectionately known as "St Ed's") has thrived under the leadership of Principal Sr. Marie Michelle Hackett, O.P.; and
