RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Department (CPD) closed the old 13th District Police Station at 927 North Wood in December 2012; and

WHEREAS, Wicker Park and Bucktown benefited from a greater police presence and more officers when this station was open; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Police Department is revising its community policing strategy and created a Community Policing Advisory Panel (CPAP); and

WHEREAS, the Community Policing Advisory Panel (CPAP) recommended the alignment of Department staffing and resources with a new community policing strategy; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson expressed a willingness to explore a satellite function for the old 13th District Police Station at 927 North Wood; and

WHEREAS, The station currently is utilized by the Cook County Sheriff's Department; and

WHEREAS, Public safety would be enhanced were the station to re-open as part of a new community policing strategy; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 8th day of November, 2017, call on the Chicago Police Department to re-activate the former 13th District Police Station in a manner that more appropriately serves the surrounding neighborhood.
