RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Chicago Journalists Association will bestow the Lifetime Achievement Award on Chicago Sun-Times Columnist Michael Sneed at the organization's 78th annual dinner to be held at the Union League Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Mandan, North Dakota, Michael Sneed graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Wayne State University; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sneed worked as a teacher at Barrington High School in Illinois from 1965 to 1966 before serving as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Ray Clevenger from 1966 to 1967; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sneed began her journalism career at the legendary City News Bureau of Chicago where she worked from 1967 to 1969; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sneed joined the Chicago Tribune in 1969 where she was a columnist from 1981 to 1986, leaving briefly to become Press Secretary for Mayor Jane M. Byrne in 1979; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sneed has served as a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times since 1986; and
WHEREAS, Known for her many highly-placed sources, Michael Sneed's columns deal in both gossip and hard news and always deal in exclusives; and
WHEREAS, Michael Sneed in an outstanding and highly accomplished journalist who is worthy of our great admiration and esteem; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby congratulate Michael Sneed on receiving this prestigious honor and do hereby express our best wishes for her continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That November 16, 2017, be recognized as Mike Sneed Day throughout the City of Chicago; and
