RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Two Chicago Police Department officers are being hailed for going the "extra mile" for their efforts to help a Chicago Marathon runner over the finish line who was injured during the course of the race; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Due to the remarkable generosity and actions of Officer Joseph Siska and probationary Officer Alfredo Martinez, Chicago Marathon runner Edward Hensley finished the race; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hensley suffered a broken hip two miles before the finish line but remained determined to finish the race; and
WHEREAS, That is when Officers Siska and Martinez came to his assistance and stayed with Edward Hensley for two hours as he used a folding chair to support himself and limped along the route; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hensley was the 42,860 runner to complete the race and hopped across the finish line on one leg; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hensley logged an official time of 6 hours, 47 minutes and 44 seconds; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hensley later wrote a letter to Mayor Rahm Emanuel thanking the officers for their help; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby congratulate Officer Joseph Siska and Probationary Officer Alfredo Martinez, for their efforts to assist Edward Hensley; and
