CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DETENTION AIDE TORREY BARNES ON RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, On December 13, 2017, Detention Aide Torrey Barnes will retire from the Chicago Police Department following thirteen years of dedicated public service; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman of the 16th Ward; and

WHEREA, Detention Aide Torrey Barnes, will retire as a valued member of the 7th District; and

WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of being life's arbitrator for countless citizens, but also on their family members; and

WHEREAS, Throughout a long and distinguished tenure, Officer Torrey Barnes upheld the finest traditions of the law enforcement community and through hard work, commitment and dedication to duty, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the community; and

WHEREAS, Detention Aide Torrey Barnes devoted thirteen years of public service to the people of the City of Chicago and in doing so has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the safe, healthy and vibrant community it is today; and

WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our public servants, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the long and prolific career of Detention Aide Torrey Barnes; now, therefore

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby express our gratitude for thirty years of work in service to the people of the City of Chicago, and express our heartiest wishes on a pleasant retirement to Torrey Barnes; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Torrey Barnes.
