RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On Sunday, November 5th, 2017, Sgt. Rory Hehir was recognized as the United States Marine Corps Honoree for the 16th Annual Mayfair Community Salute to American Heroes; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this recognition by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rory Patrick Hehir was born on October 12,1984, to James and Linda Hehir, both St. Edward graduates. He attended St. Edward and Palmer grammar schools and was member of Cub Pack 3904, Scout Troop 904, and Explorer Post 2904 achieving the rank of Life Scout; and
WHEREAS, He is a 2003 graduate of Notre Dame High School where he played football and ran track for four years and was Captain of the Swim Team his senior year, a three sport athlete. He attended Oakton Community College for 2 years and joined the Marines in August of 2005; and

WHEREAS, Rory graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on October 28, 2005, and from Marine Corps Combat Training in November. Since his aptitude test scores were high, he was sent to "A' School in Pensacola, Florida, where he served in the Base Police Auxiliary Force while waiting for Hurricane Katrina to clear and then began Aviation Ordinance School for training in arming, mounting, and quality assurance with great distinction; and

WHEREAS, He completed the course in December, 2006. He then was sent to "C-School" in Cherry Point, North Carolina, for detailed training in the arming and use of ordinance racks, armament and countermeasure loading of the AV-8 Harrier, a fixed wing jet capable of vertical take offs and landings.

WHEREAS, In February of 2007, he was assigned as an Aviation Ordinance Systems Tech to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona. Therefater, from March through October 2008, he was deployed to the Fleet Marine Forces, Iraq, with the Harrier Squadron VMA-311 at Al Asad Air Force Base and Al Qua-im Marine Forward Operating B...
