RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Cary, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was the loving husband for 66 years of Patricia; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was the much-adored father of Teresa, Paul, David and James, the grandfather of seven and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was the dear brother of Patricia and Don; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was a descendant of the first landowners in McHenry County; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin served his country during the Korean War as a tank driver; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from the University of Illinois, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was an engineer and ultimately became a Research Fellow with the American Can Company; and

WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was instrumental in establishing the Cary Park District which today oversees 52 parks and 846 acres of trails and open spaces; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin was President Emeritus of the Cary Park District and an active participant in the McHenry Genealogical Society and the McHenry Area Historical Society; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Lawrence "Larry" Phalin.
