RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mary Genevieve "Gen". Simmons, nee Vrdolyak, was the loving and devoted wife of the late Henry R. Simmons, Sr; and
WHEREAS, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons was the much-adored mother of Cyndee, the Honorable Henry R. Jr., and Dr. Gayle, and the devoted grandmother of three to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Late of the East Side and formerly of South Chicago, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons was a graduate of St. Peter and St. Paul High School in South Chicago and St. Francis College in Joliet; and
WHEREAS, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons was the office manager at the Vrdolyak Law Group for many years as well as a former teacher with the Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons traveled the world with her family and friends, including visits to her ancestral homeland of Croatia; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons imparts a legacy of faitltfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of mis resolution be presented to the family of Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simmons.
