RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eberhard van der Laan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eberhard van der Laan was a widely admired Dutch politician and the loving husband of Femke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eberhard van der Laan was the much-adored father of five children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Labor Party, the Honorable Eberhard van der Laan had served as the Mayor of Amsterdam since 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eberhard van der Laan was known for running the city "with a firm hand and a compassionate touch"; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Eberhard van der Laan previously practiced as a lawyer before serving from 2008 to 2010 as Minister for Housing, Communities and Integration; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Eberhard van der Laan serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Eberhard van der Laan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Eberhard van der Laan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Eberhard van der Laan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
