Title: Gratitude extended to Police Lieutenant Joseph Porebski for dedicated service to community

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Joseph Porebski has distinguished himself throughout his thirty years in the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Currently, he serves as Watch Lieutenant for the Third Watch, which means that he is in charge of everything and everyone in the third watch. As situations arise, it is up to him to "Break the Glass," and call on resources and deliver what is needed when it is needed where it is needed; and
WHEREAS, That role is a natural fit for Joe, because his approach has always been about valuing the contributions of the whole team, and calling on everyone to lend their unique perspectives and talents. He has encouraged beat cops to communicate more of their day-to-day observations with Detectives. He has fostered greater cooperation between the District and downtown, and he has coordinated with other departments and sister agencies- like Streets and San and the CTA- to address community challenges in a holistic way; and
WHEREAS, Joe's talent for leadership and coordination were on full display during the 2010 Albany Park flood, for which he earned a Unit Meritorious Performance Award; and
WHEREAS, Joe also showed tremendous leadership as a Tac Lieutenant in 2007. He and the other Tac Officers pursued an extended investigation which culminated with 24-hour shifts over the Easter weekend. Their work paid off with an operation which took down an industrial-scale multimillion dollar marijuana grow house on the 4400 block of North Kasson. For that work, they earned a Cook County Crime Stoppers Award and a Chicago City Council Resolution; and
WHEREAS, Joe Porebski is an alumni of St. Josaphat Parish Elementary School, Lane Tech High School, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also a devoted family man, who is proud of his wife Marcia and his sons Joey and Ryan. His family, in turn is very proud of him, as is the 17th District and the Mayfair community; now therefore
