RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Fats Domino has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Fats Domino was a rock 'n' roll trailblazer and the loving husband for more than fifty years of the late Rosemary; and

WHEREAS, Born Antoine Domino Jr., Fats Domino was one of nine children of a violin player; and

WHEREAS, As a youth, Fats Domino taught himself how to play popular music styles, including blues, ragtime and boogie-woogie after a cousin left an upright piano at his house; and

WHEREAS, Fats Domino was playing for $3 a week at the Hideaway Club when he was signed by Imperial Records; and

WHEREAS, Fats Domino broke into the white pop charts in 1955 with "Ain't It a Shame" and enjoyed a string of hits including "Blueberry Hill" "Be My Guest" and "I'm Walkin"; and

WHEREAS, Fats Domino was one of the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Fats Domino's 1956 version of "Blueberry Hill" was selected by the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry of historic sound recordings worthy of preservation; and -v

WHEREAS, Fats Domino lived for many years in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans which was decimated by Hurricane Katrina, forcing his evacuation and destroying much of his memorabilia and pianos; and

WHEREAS, The talent, remarkable music, contributions and dedication of Fats Domino serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Fats Domino to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Fats Domino imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Fats Domino for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Fats Domino.
