RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was the loving and devoted husband of Mary; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was the much-adored father of two sons to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
EREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales graduated from the University of Utah and earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales gave up a highly successful career as a business executive to assume a leadership role within the Mormon Church; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was an Apostle of the Church for 23 years after serving as a member of the Seventy; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was Presiding Bishop of the Church from 1985 until his call to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the church full-time, Elder Robert D. Hales held executive positions at three major corporations; and
WHEREAS, Elder Robert D. Hales was hailed for his business acumen, devotion to his church and "ability to read people"; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Elder Robert D. Hales serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Elder Robert D. Hales imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of November, 2017, do hereby commemorate Elder Robert D. Hales for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
