BE IT ORDAINED BY CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO;

SECTION 1. Pursuant to an ordinance heretofore passed by the City Council which allows erection of honorary street-name signs, the Commissioner of Transportation shall take the necessary action for standardization of the Aberdeen Street from West Vernon Park Place to West Taylor Street as Honorary "Carmie Shoes" Way

Mr. Carmen DeLaurentis was an outstanding Chicagoan who passed away September 19th 2016 at the age of 92 whose remarkable life deserves to be commemorated.

 

Carmen DeLaurentis was a community leader and a lifelong resident of Little Italy. He also was a lifelong parishioner at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii.

 

Mr. DeLaurentis was known as "Carmie Shoes" DeLaurentis. Mr. DeLaurentis received the Donald C. Piemonte Man of the Year Award for Community Service from the Gazette in 1997, always helping in the Community. A Former member of the Chicago truck drivers' union and teamsters union local 705.

 

Mr. DeLaurentis also was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
