Title: Congratulations extended to George Washington High School's Patriots on winning city soccer championship

On October 15, 2017, George Washington High School, the Pride of the East Side, became a first time City Champion for Chicago Public Schools in Men's Soccer when they defeated city-wide schools in a thrilling public league series ; and

WHEREAS, The Washington High Patriots cruised to a record of 9-3-4 record in conference, their losses to Sullivan in their last conference game, earning second place alongside Whitney Young in conference. This was a huge comeback from last year's first round loss to Kennedy High School; and

WHEREAS, The Patriots then stormed through the playoff season, defeating Hancock High School with a stellar performance, ending the game 4-1 in the Quarter Finals. And;

WHEREAS, after a controversial 3-3 tie during the regular season, Washington met once more with CPS powerhouse and 3A school, Whitney Young in a semi-final face-off, hosted at Lane Tech High School; and

WHEREAS, Entering the Semi-Final, the Patriots confronted the memory of the 3-3 tie and the question of a clear winner unanswered; and

WHEREAS, after a scoreless half, the 2017 Patriots left last year's early elimination disappointment behind, the goal delivery by Alberto Solis assisted by Angel Arismendiz, beating Whitney Young 1-0 in a gripping match full of heavy rain fall, thereby the Patriots earning a place in their first ever City Final since the loss of 2010 vs. Kelly High School; and

WHEREAS, The Patriots opened the finals against a reigning consecutive 3-year City Champion Lane Tech High School, a 3A school and CPS powerhouse, hosted by Brooks High School; and

WHEREAS, the end of the first half approached and on the strength of a goal by Juan Antonio Garibay and assist from Felipe Ramirez giving the patriots the momentum they needed and the game winning goal: and

WHEREAS, a lockdown defense backstopped by goalkeeper Jesus Lozano maintained the 1-0 lead, leaving Lane scoreless and earning Washington their first City Championship with a 14-3-4 record.
