ORDINANCE

 

 

SECTION 1. Section 4-6-180 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting the language stricken through and by inserting the language underscored, as follows:

4-6-180 Hotel.

(e)     Legal duties. Each license engaged in the business of hotel shall have a duty to:

(1)     equip employees who are assigned to work in clean or to inventory, inspect or restock supplies in a guest room or restroom, under circumstances where no other employee is present in such room, with a panic button or notification device. The employee may use the panic button or notification device to summon help if the employee reasonably believes that an ongoing crime, sexual harassment, sexual assault or other emergency is occurring in the employee's presence. Panic buttons and notification devices shall be provided by the licensee at no cost to the employee;

Your Committee on Workforce Development and Audit, to which was referred on January 17,2018, an ordinance amending Municipal Code Section 4-6-180 concerning hotel licensee's obligations to equip employees assigned to clean guest rooms or restrooms with panic button or notification devices, and a subsequent substitute ordinance introduced directly into committee on June 20, 2018, begs leave to recommend that your Honorable Body DO PASS the substitute ordinance submitted herewith.

This recommendation was concurred in by all members ofthe committee present.
