SUBSIITUTE RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the City of Chicago Animal Care & Control Commission (CACC)( last year operated
as the City's only open admission shelter, receiving 14,901 animals in 20.17; arid    """""""    '

WHEREAS, 7,224 dogs were received by CACC: 3,134 dogs were received as strays, 2,235 dogs were given up to their owners, 642 were confiscated, 484 were requested for disposal, 669 were requests for euthanasia, and sixty were dogs returned to CACC; and

 

WHEREAS, 5,898 cats were received by CACC: 3,557 were received as strays, 1,815 cats were given up by their owners, 118 were confiscated, 241 were requested for disposal, 147 were euthanized, 195 died while in care, 1,131 were dead on arrival; and

 

WHEREAS, participating Homeward Bound Program organizations have successfully transferred out of CACC 3,250 dogs, 3,951 cats, and 829 "other" animals; and

 

WHEREAS, CACC has on several occasions reached maximum capacity in the shelter throughout the 2017 year and continued the trend at the beginning of 2018, proposing to euthanize animals indiscriminately in order to create space within the facilities; therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, do hereby declare 2018 to be "The Year of the Shelter Animal;" and
