Resolution Honoring Andy Brecklin
WHEREAS, for more than 13 years, Andy Brecklin has served as Scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 963, based out of Eden United Church of Christ in Jefferson Park; and
WHEREAS, through those years, Scoutmaster Brecklin has created an environment that fosters growth and cultivates future leaders that are invested in their community; and
WHEREAS, under his tutelage, many of those scouts have gone on to complete projects that strengthen our community and our City, and many have attained the rank of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, outside of the role of Scoutmaster, Andy has invested in his neighborhood and worked on behalf to those less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, Andy has worked tirelessly with Olive's Neighborhood Garden for the Hungry, a local community garden; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, Andy helped transform a previously abandoned lot along the Kennedy Expressway into a thriving garden that serves local food pantries; and
WHEREAS, today, neighbors work alongside scouts and Andy to maintain the garden, strengthening the existing relationship between scouts and their communities; and
WHEREAS, Andy is still involved with the upkeep and organization of the garden as well as the fundraising efforts that help support it; and
WHEREAS, Andy's commitment to doing a good turn daily has earned him the coveted Silver Beaver Award, the highest award at the council level, from the Boy Scouts of America Pathways to Adventure Council; and
WHEREAS, Andy's commitment to the Boy Scouts, his community, and our City sets an outstanding example for all who witness his work; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly on March 28, 2017, do hereby commemorate Scoutmaster Brecklin on his receipt of the Silver Beaver Award and commend him on his continued work for Jefferson Park and the City of Chicago.
