Institutional Biography
The Polish Highlanders Alliance of America is a national organization headquartered in Chicago, whose purpose is the continual unity of the peoples of Southern Poland. The organization was founded in November of 1928. Since that time, the Alliance has opened more than 86 small organizations and operated continually for 87 years.
In addition to the preservation and promotion of Highlander culture, the Alliance has operated its very own radio station, WPNA 1490, for over 30 years. In this way the linguistic heritage of the peoples of Southern Poland is promoted and shared, sometimes for the very first time, with new generations in the United States.
Reason for Honoring
The Polish Highlanders Alliance of America is an inseparable part of the cultural fabric of Chicago. Its existence is a testament to the words of John F. Kennedy, that the U.S. is and remains "a nation of immigrants."
