TRIBUTE TO THE LATE NANCY CLARE (PODGORNY) DUNNE.
WHEREAS, It was with great sadness that members of this chamber learned of the April 29, 2018 death of Nancy Clare (Podgorny) Dunne, an outstanding woman who devoted her life to her family and her community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Margaret Laurino; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 18, 1936 in Chicago, Nancy was the daughter of Hazen and Mary Alice (McGuire) Griffin and the younger sister of Hazen. On July 28, 1978, Nancy married Peter Finley Dunne in Chicago. Prior to Nancy's marriage to Peter, she was married to the late John Podgorny of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Nancy lived in Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Iowa City and Dubuque. She excelled in any challenge presented to her, especially in the professional arena when she worked as a real estate agent, business owner, and bookkeeper. Nancy loved spending time with her family, knitting, shopping at her favorite stores, and cheering on her beloved Chicago White Sox; and
WHEREAS, Left to mourn her loss and celebrate her memory are Nancy's devoted family members, children John (Mary Ellen), Patrick (Angela) Christine (Herb), Jill (Don) and Mary Jo (Jimmy); 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Hazen and Mary Alice, her husbands Peter and John, a brother Hazen (Tuffy), two nieces Kathy and Judi, and great-nephew, Charlie; and
WHEREAS, Known for her generosity, kindness, love for others, words of wisdom and quick wit, Nancy Dunne was a woman of great accomplishment and integrity. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence, and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
