CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO FATHER MICHAEL J. CRONIN ON HIS RETIREMENT AS PASTOR OF SAINT EDWARD CHURCH.

 

WHEREAS, Father Michael J. Cronin is retiring as Pastor of Saint Edward Church on June 30, 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago on May 15, 1947 to Thomas and Catherine Cronin, he was baptized at St. Gregory the Great Church, graduated from St. Monica Elementary School in 1961 and from Quigley Preparatory Seminary North in 1965; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Mike received his bachelor's degree from Niles College of Loyola University in 1969, earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1973 at St. Mary, and received a Master's Degree in Applied Spirituality from the University of San Francisco in 1995; and

 

WHEREAS, On May 9, 1973, Father Michael J. Cronin was ordained to the priesthood of Jesus Christ by John Cardinal Cody to serve as a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. He served as Associate Pastor at St. Cyprian (River Grove) from 1973-1978, St. James (Sauk Village) from 1978-1980, St. Ferdinand (Chicago) from 1980-1985; and

 

WHEREAS, The Archdiocese of Chicago recognized Father Mike's devotion and talent, assigning him to' locations throughout the Chicago area, including the Archdiocese of Chicago seminary faculty at Quigley North from 1985-1990, Archbishop Quigley from 1990-1992, Niles College Seminary from 1992-1994, St. Joseph College Seminary from 1994-1998; and

 

WHEREAS, Father Mike also served as Administrator of Sacred Heart Parish (Winnetka) in 1996; the Executive Director of NOCERCC (National Organization for the Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy) from 1998-2002; and, as an Associate of Midway and O'Hare Airport Chapels (Chicago) from 2002-2003; and

 

WHEREAS, He served as administrator of St. Alphonsus Parish (Lemont) in 2003, Our Lady of the Snow (Chicago) from 2003-2004, and as Pastor of St. Patrick Parish (Lemont) from 2004-2010; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2010, Father Mike was named Pastor of St. Edward Church. Over the years, he faithfully served the people of St. Edward through his guidance and leadership. His devotion to the ministries and activities of the

 

 

parish was unparalleled. He never failed to offer comfort and encouragement to those in need. Father Mike made a point of greeting both parishioners and visitors before and after each of the weekend masses. His support of St. Edward School and his tireless efforts to maintain and improve the facilities will always be remembered; and

 

WHEREAS, Although Father Mike was scheduled to retire in 2017, much to the delight of his parishioners, he continued as pastor of St. Edward for an additional year at the request of Cardinal Blase J. Cupich; and

 

WHEREAS, Fulfilling his commitment as Pastor of St. Edward, Father Mike will retire on June 30, 2018. He will remain in the hearts and minds of the people of St. Edward as a pastor who served the community with hard work, patience and grace; and

 

WHEREAS, St. Edward Parish will celebrate Father Mike's remarkable career and immeasurable contribution to the community on June 3; now therefore

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of May 2018 do hereby honor and express our deepest appreciation for the vast accomplishments and dedicated service of Father Michael J. Cronin as he retires from St. Edward Church and we extend to him our very best wishes for continued happiness; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Father Michael J. Cronin as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
