CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DR. GLORIA J. GIBSON ON BEING NAMED PRESIDENT OF NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY.
WHEREAS, Dr. Gloria J. Gibson was elected to serve as the tenth president of Northeastern Illinois University following an international search process; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by Alderman Margaret Laurino; and
WHEREAS, Upon learning of her election to serve as President, Dr. Gibson said "I am truly honored to be named President at Northeastern Illinois University, a place I developed a strong and heartfelt appreciation for since setting foot on campus. Among the things I found most impressive about Northeastern are its resiliency during the past 150 years and its diverse community. I am so honored to be a part of Northeastern's history and to be following the footsteps of strong leaders who preceded me"; and
WHEREAS, A native of East St. Louis, Illinois, Dr. Gloria J. Gibson has built a distinguished career in academia. She comes to Northeastern from her most recent post at Morgan State University where she served as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of May 2018, do hereby congratulate Dr. Gloria J. Gibson on her selection as president of Northeastern Illinois University and extend our best wishes for continued success and achievement; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. Gloria J. Gibson.
