BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

 

... Section 1. .Section 8-32-060. of the.Municipal Code of Chicago is hereby amended by adding the language underscored as follows:

 

8-32-060 Designation of noise sensitive and monitoring zones.

 

(a)      The superintendent of police is authorized to prepare recommendations to be approved by the city council for the designation of noise sensitive zones which contain noise sensitive activities. Existing quiet zones shall be considered noise sensitive zones until otherwise designated. Noise sensitive activities include, but are not limited to, operations of schools, libraries open to the public, churches, hospitals and nursing homes.

(b)     The superintendent of police is authorized to install a noise monitoring system upon anv portion of the roadway known as Lake Shore Drive. A monitoring system means an automated noise monitor capable of recording noise levels 24 hours per day and 365 days per year with computer equipment sufficient to process data. Twelve months after the installation of the noise monitoring system, and any time after the first report as the city council deems necessary, the superintendent of police will prepare a noise monitoring report with the data collected from the system and shall, upon request, make the report available to the public.
