Resolution Honoring Major General James Marks as an American Hero

WHEREAS, All Chicagoans owe a great debt of gratitude to our Military Veterans that served with S great honor to defend our way of life and spread liberty across the world; and

 

WHEREAS, Few of these great Veterans ever achieve the high rank of Major General, an honor bestowed after years of hard work and service to their country; and

 

WHEREAS, Major General James "Spider" Marks achieved this great honor by serving over 30 years in the Army and holding every command position from infantry platoon leader to commanding general: and

 

WHEREAS, Major General Marks received numerous awards during his time in the Army including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf cluster, the Bronze Star, and multiple combat, expeditionary, and service ribbons; and

 

WHEREAS, Major General Marks has spent his life not only focused on defending the United States but also focused on furthering education for himself and others, graduating from The United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, then over the years also earning Masters Degrees from University of Virginia, and the School of Advanced Military Studies, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; and

 

WHEREAS, Major General Marks is now an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University and serves as a military analyst for CNN, always ready to teach people what he has spent decades learning; and

 

WHEREAS, All Chicagoans owe Major General Marks a great deal and would like to honor him in every way possible; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 23rd day of May 2018, do here by recognize and are grateful to Major General James "Spider" Marks for his great service to Chicago and the whole of the United States; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to Major General
