RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and the loving husband of the late Pearl, nee Goerres; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn was the much-adored father of John, Robert, Thomas, Carole, William, Mark and Pamela, the grandfather of 22 and the great-grandfather of 43 to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn began his law enforcement career with the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn was involved in many high-profile cases working under Lieutenant Frank Pape's citywide robbery division; and
WHEREAS, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn assisted parents in identifying remains following the tragic 1958 Our Lady of the Angels school fire in which 92 children and three nuns perished; and
WHEREAS, In 1966 John J. "Jack" Haberkorn was a Lieutenant at the South Chicago police station during the Richard Speck murder case; and
WHEREAS, In 1976 John J. "Jack" Haberkorn negotiated a hostage release during a currency exchange robbery at 51st and Halsted Streets which received national television coverage; and
WHEREAS, After serving as a District Commander, John J. "Jack" Haberkorn retired from the Chicago Police Department and was appointed Chief of the Village of Oak Lawn Police Department; and
WHEREAS, A member of "Our Greatest Generation," John J. "Jack" Haberkorn served his country during World War II as a member of the United State Army Air Corps; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John J. "Jack" Haberkorn serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John J. "Jack" Haberkorn to his family members, friend...
