RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke and co-sponsors; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini was a former Chicago Alderman and the loving wife of the late Camillo Francis; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini was the much-adored mother of the Honorable Michael, Marion, David, Marcella and Monica and the grandmother of ten to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini was the cherished sister of Joan and the late Edward, Janet and Tom; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini will be remembered as an inspirational leader who helped to shape the future of the Edgewater community; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini began her activism at the school and church levels and helped to form the Lakewood-Balmoral Residents Council; and
WHEREAS, A voice for progressive change, the Honorable Marion Volini was an early supporter of Mayor Harold Washington; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Mundelein College and a Chicago Public schools teacher, the Honorable Marion Volini always carried herself with dignity and her word was known as her bond; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini ably served as a member of the Chicago City Council representing the 48th Ward from 1978 to 1987; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure in office, the Honorable Marion Volini focused on improving neighborhood safety, housing rehabilitation and preventing lakefront erosion; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini also worked to develop the Clark Street Corridor and invigorate the Bryn Mawr commercial area; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini advocated for the state armory at Broadway and Thorndale be used as an indoor recreation center; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini brought the community together through her sense of compassion and conscience; and
WHEREAS, The sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Marion Volini serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marion Volini was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Marion Volini imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-seventh day of June, 2018, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Marion Volini for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Marion Volini. /
