RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Julie J. Belcastro, a proud native Chicagoan and one of our City's newest centenarians, celebrated the joyful occasion of her 100th Birthday on October 4, 2018; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of this special event by the Honorable Roberto Maldonado, Alderman of the 26th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Julie was born in 1918 on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of Animals; and

WHEREAS, Julie married Fred Belcastro and the couple was blessed with a caring and loving daughter, Mary Therese; and

WHEREAS, Fred Belcastro passed away in 1957 after 15 years of marriage; and

WHEREAS, Julie has lived on Huron Street for 70 years where she has long been a familiar and respected member of the neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Julie and has never driven a car, opting for decades to take street cars or walk to Holy Rosary Church on Western Avenue and to grocery and retail stores; and

WHEREAS, Julie has had pets all of her life, including dogs, cats and birds, and still mourns the loss of her first pet dog, Bozo; and

WHEREAS, Julie stays healthy with vitamins and does not take any medications to this day; and

WHEREAS, For over 42 years, the loving care and devotion of her daughter, Mary Therese, has truly given Julie a good life and allowed her to stay in the home she loves; and

WHEREAS, Having witnessed eighteen Presidents of the United States and fifteen Mayors of Chicago in her lifetime, Julie has beheld the rich history of our City and nation, and is truly deserving of our admiration as she celebrates this remarkable milestone; and

WHEREAS, Julie will celebrate her birthday in the presence of her dear friends and family. She will carry with her the spirit of her late husband, Fred^and the continuing love of her daughter, Mary Therese; now, therefore,
