RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Edwin Eisendrath has announced his resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Sun-Times; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A former Chicago alderman, entrepreneur and educator, the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath partnered with the Chicago Federation of Labor and other investors to purchase the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Reader in July of 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Edwin Eisendrath was largely successful in turning around the newspaper and will remain a member of its board; and

 

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath, the company erased more than $8 million in annual structural losses and he has forecast that the company will become cash-flow positive by early 2019; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath graduated from Harvard University and served as the Alderman of the 43rd Ward which represents parts of Lincoln Park, Old Town and the Gold Coast from 1987 to 1993; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Edwin Eisendrath left the City Council to become Administrator for Region 5 of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the nation's third-largest housing authority, and in that position oversaw the transformation of public housing in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Edwin Eisendrath is a former Vice President of Academic Affairs for Kendall College where he was responsible for academics, support systems, accreditation, student life, quality control and on line offerings; and

 

WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2017, the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath worked as the Managing Director for Huron Consulting Group, an international business specializing in education; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventh day of November, 2018, do hereby congratulates the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath for his invaluable contributions as Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Sun-Times and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued guidance of the newspaper as a board member; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Edwin Eisendrath.
