Title: Tribute to late Honorable Brent Taylor

WHEREAS, the Honorable Brent Taylor, mayor of North Ogden, Utah, and a major in the Utah National Guard attached to Joint Force Headquarters and an advisory team training staff, perished in an apparent "insider attack" in Kabul, Afghanistan on November 3, 2018 during his fourth deployment to that war-torn region; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of his tragic death by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Brent Taylor grew up in Arizona, and with his five brothers answered a grieving nation's call and enlisted in the military following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, before his last tour of duty, the Honorable Brent Taylor served twice in Iraq and once in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Brent Taylor, a 2006 graduate of Brigham Young University, earned a Masters Degree in 2012 from the University of Utah in public administration; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Brent Taylor, the father of seven children, joined the North Ogden, Utah City Council in 2009, and was elected mayor in 2013; and
WHEREAS, deeply committed to public service and greatly admired by the citizens of North Ogden and Weber County, Utah for his hands-on, forward-thinking interactive leadership within the community, the Honorable Brent Taylor won re-election in 2017; and
WHEREAS, during his mayoral tenure, the Honorable Brent Taylor championed notable civic projects and improvements by adding an amphitheater, a public works building and new roads; and
WHEREAS, the City of North Ogden, Utah has lost a beloved friend, and a trusted and respected public official; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this seventh day of November 2018, do hereby express our sorrow and extend deepest condolences to Jennie Taylor, her children Megan, Lincoln, Alex, Jacob, Ellie, Jonathan, Caroline and members of the Taylor family.
