Title: Donation of World Trade Center beam to Chicago Park District

ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, From time to time the City of Chicago receives gifts of an honorary nature from other cities that commemorate both the close friendship between our cities and significant events in our shared history; and
WHEREAS, Such gifts may be of such substantial historical and cultural importance that the City desires to make them accessible to members of the public; and
WHEREAS, The City's Fire Department is in possession of a beam from the former World Trade Center ("Beam") that is a gift from New York City to memorialize lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, The City wishes to donate this historically significant item to the Chicago Park District so that it may be displayed and made accessible for visitation by the public; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. The Mayor or his designee is hereby authorized to donate the Beam to the Chicago Park District, free and clear of any liens or encumbrances. The City shall convey the Beam in "as is" condition without any warranties either expressed or implied, and expressly excluding any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
SECTION 2. The Mayor or his designee is hereby authorized to enter into and execute such other documents as may be necessary and proper to implement this donation.
