Memorial Resolution for Sam Carter Jr.

WHEREAS, In his Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Sam Carter Jr. on January 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Anthony A. Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and

WHEREAS, In 1932, loving parents, Beatrice and Sam Carter Sr. were blessed with the birth of their son Sam while living in Collins, Mississippi. As a young adult, Sam moved to Detroit, Michigan where he was employed with Ford Motor Company. After spending many years in Detroit, Sam relocated to Chicago, Illinois, which became his final home; and

WHEREAS, In Chicago, Sam began his public service career with the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Sam decided to make a job change which led him to the City of Chicago, Department of Streets and Sanitation, where he enjoyed his position as a Motor Truck Driver until his retirement from the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Sam was known for his heart of gold and always went out of his way to be kind and helpful to people. He was a "jack of all trades", a very sociable person, and said to be quite dapper in his appearance. Sam was also a loyal Precinct Captain for the 38th precinct for many years. He enjoyed working with the residents and he continued to remain active in the community; and

WHEREAS, Sam leaves to cherish his memory, his adoring wife Brenda, his loving daughter, Samika and three wonderful grandchildren, James, Destiny and Dealeon, along with his extended family and treasured friends; and

WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a man of faith, Sam joined Macedonia Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1968 under the leadership of Reverend Jackson. Sam became a deacon and spent much of his time nurturing the spiritual needs of the congregation. He was also very involved as a member of the choir, and also shared his spirit through voice, as a lead singer; and

WHEREAS, In 1979, Sam joined True Vine of Holiness Baptist Church where Bishop Henderson Hill is leader and overseer. Sam was an active and faithful member until he made his transition on January 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Sam touched all the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, and vivacious spirit. A true man of God, he will be sorely missed but fondly remembered for his compassion, character, great integrity, and accomplishments; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we the Mayor and Members of the City Council of Chicago, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby express our sincere sorrow upon learning of the passing of Sam Carter Jr. and extend our deepest condolence to his family and loved ones; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Sam Carter Jr. as a sign of our honor, gratitude and respect.
