EXHIBIT A
CITY OF CHICAGO COMMISSION ON CHICAGO LANDMARKS

December 6,2018
RECOMMENDATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL TO APPROVE A PERMIT APPLICATION FOR PARTIAL DEMOLITION OF A
CHICAGO LANDMARK
Pursuant to Section 2-120-825 of the Municipal Code governing review of permits for the demolition of 40% or more of any building or structure either designated as a "Chicago Landmark" or located in any district designated as a "Chicago Landmark," the Commission on Chicago Landmarks (the "Commission") has reviewed an application which includes the partial demolition and reconstruction of a
Two-story commercial building ("Building") located at 1SS0 N. Clark Street known as Village Theater, a Chicago Landmark (the "Landmark"); and

Whereas the significant historical or architectural features identified in the ordinance designating the Chicago Landmark are all exterior elevations, including rooflines, of the building visible from the public right-of-way;

THE COMMISSION ON CHICAGO LANDMARKS HEREBY:
Finds, in accordance with the criteria for review of permit applications established in Article IV of the Commission's Rules and Regulations, that the east facade of the Building to be demolished is deteriorated beyond reasonable methods of repair; the reconstruction of this portion of the Building will be similar in design, construction, function, appearance, material, and other characteristics; and the demolition and reconstruction of this portion of the Building will not have a negative effect on the character of the Landmark;
Therefore finds, in accordance with Section 2-120-770 of the Municipal Code, that the partial demolition and reconstruction of a portion of the Building will not adversely affect any significant historical or architectural features of the Landmark, and that the demolition is in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings;
Approves a permit application for the partial demolition and reconstruction of the east facade of the Building; and,
Recommends, in accordance with Section 2-120-825, that the Chicago City Council and its Committee on Zoning, Landmark and Building Standards accept the Commission's approval of the permit application which includes the partial demolition of the Building.
