ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO
Section 1: Pursuant to an ordinance heretofore passed by the City Council which allows erection of honorary street-name signs, the Commissioner of Transportation shall take the necessary action for the standardization of W. Nelson, between N. Racince Avenue and N. Southport Avenue as "Jonathan Bunge Way."
Section 2: The ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication

Please be advised that I have requested an honorary street sign for Jonathan Bunge Way. This was introduced into City Council on January 22, 2019. I am requesting that you allow the fabrication of the signs pending the publication of the ordinance in the Journal of Proceedings of the City Council of the City of Chicago. In addition, I am requesting to that someone contact Elizabeth Gomez, in my office, to coordinate a date and time for installation of the sign at 773-248-1330.

Tribute to late Jonathan Gunn Bunge
Tribute to Jonathan Gunn Bunge
WHEREAS, Jonathan Gunn Bunge passed away at age 81, on April 10th, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Scott Waguespack; and
WHEREAS, Jon was the proprietor of Will's Northwoods Inn, located at 3030 N. Racine Avenue, which has been a cornerstone business, steward of the community, beacon of fellowship, and gathering place for neighbors since April 1st, 1991; and
WHEREAS, Jon gave Will's Northwoods Inn to the community as a safe and friendly place for all neighbors to have their packages delivered and stored, and where neighbors could find help with things such as dead car batteries, lockouts, shoveling sidewalks, minor repairs and heavy lifting; and
WHEREAS, Will's was the designated gathering place for countless neighborhood meetings, forums, celebrations, family get-togethers, group discussions, memorials; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bunge was a long-time member and proud supporter of the South Lakeview Neighbors group, and happily hosted their monthly meetings for many years; and
WHEREAS, He insisted on hosting and funding both the annual Summer membership party, and official South Lakeview Neighbors Christmas party; and
WHEREAS, Jon was the owner of more than 30 properties and 130 apartments in the heart of the South Lakeview; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Bunge graduated with honors from Princeton University before earning his law degree from Harvard University, where he also graduated with honors; and
WHEREAS, He generously and continuously donated his expertise and skills as a Harvard Lawyer to assist neighbors with legal documentation and advice; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bunge was a generous leader of the community who was well-known, well-respected, and well-loved by all the people who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Jon was a devoted and beloved husband to his wife Trudy Bunge for over 57 years before his passing; and
WHEREAS, He was a dedicated and loving father to his sons Jonathan and William, and to his daughter Katherine.
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council gathered here on this 27th day of June 2018, do hereby honor the memory of Jonathan Gunn Bunge, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family members of Jonathan Gunn Bunge as our token of our honor, gratitude, and respect. Q
