Declaration of February 11, 2019 as "Cesar Augusto Izquierdo Day" in Chicago

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto Izquierdo, though a native of Peru, was true Chicagoan who added a great deal to the community fabric of the Rogers Park neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto was born in Lima, Peru on May 22, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto attended the Peruvian Police Academy and served in the police for twenty five years, before retiring at the rank of Captain; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement, Cesar Augusto immigrated to the United States in 2002 to live in Chicago;

and

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto joined his brother, Cesar Andres, the founder of Rogers Park's Taste of Peru, as an ambassador of Peruvian food and culture to Chicago's far North Side; and

 

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto became a well-known waiter and manager at Taste of Peru, adding to the restaurant's reputation for hospitality; and

 

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto continued his commitment to public safety, supporting his brother Cesar Andres' efforts as the 24th District's CAPS Spanish Beat Facilitator, by helping flier the neighborhood, providing a meeting space for the community, and serving as Santa Claus for nine years at the Spanish CAPS Christmas parties; and

 

WHEREAS, Cesar Augusto passed away, following a battle with cancer, on February 11, 2012, leaving behind many friends and family members who continue to cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, August thirtieth of each year is traditionally the Peruvian day of honoring members of the police; and

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty third day of January 2018 C.E., recognize February 11, 2019 to be "Cesar Augusto Izquierdo Day" in Chicago in honor of a true Chicagoan and Rogers Park neighbor; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Izquierdo family. /
