RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Charles "Chuck" Kirtley Mount has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 78; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Mount was a widely admired Chicago journalist known for his tenacity, accuracy and fairness; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of an Army Lieutenant Colonel, Charles Mount earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Mount worked as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune from 1964 to 1998 where he covered Criminal Courts, the State of Illinois Building, the Daley Center and the north and northwest suburbs; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Mount relished being out on the street in the action and covered numerous high-profile stories including the execution of convicted triple-murderer Charles Albanese in 1995; and

 

WHEREAS, After concluding his newspaper career which spanned 33 years, Charles "Chuck" Kirtley Mount purchased a recreational vehicle and drove across the country, skiing and golfing, before buying a home in Isleton, California; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles Mount served in the 12th Special Forces Group from 1968 to 1976 and retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves after 28 years; and

 

WHEREAS, The gung ho attributes that made him successful in his military career also made him an accomplished newsman; and

 

WHEREAS, Charles "Chuck" Kirtley Mount was blessed with a big, colorful personality and made many true and lasting friends throughout his lifetime; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Charles Mount Charles "Chuck" Kirtley Mount serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of . life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Charles Mount to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Charles Mount was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his two daughters, Hillary and Kimberly, and his three grandchildren, Charles Mount imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, do hereby commemorate Charles Mount for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Mount. /
