RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Pat Somers Cronin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the Beverly community, Pat Somers Cronin was a widely admired journalist and the loving wife of the late James R., Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Pat Somers Cronin was the much-adored mother of Patricia, James R. Jr., Sheila, Emily, Mary Ann, John, Michael, Walter, Joseph, and the late Ellyn Rose, the grandmother of thirty-three and the great-grandmother of fifteen to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Pat Somers Cronin graduated from Rosary College, now Dominican University, and earned a master's degree in English from the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Known as an articulate and gifted wordsmith, Pat Somers Cronin worked as a copywriter for Marshall Field's and Sears and for the advertising firm of Young and Rubicam; and

WHEREAS, Pat Somers Cronin wrote the "View from the Hill" column for the Beverly Review newspaper for 20 years and was a frequent contributor and book reviewer for America Magazine, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, The New World and other publications; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Pat Somers Cronin serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Pat Somers Cronin to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Pat Somers Cronin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Pat Somers Cronin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
