MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR JOHNNIE JOHNSON JR.
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Johnnie Johnson, Jr., most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward on October 31, 2018; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 23, 1933 in Ripley, Tennessee, Johnnie was the adored son of the late Johnnie Johnson, Sr. and the late Eddie Pink Green. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Freddie Jackson and Willie Jackson; and one sister, Geraldine Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Johnnie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior a short time ago in the presence of his loving family; and
WHEREAS, Johnnie excelled at his trade as a skilled automobile mechanic which provided him with a sense of accomplishment. He also worked as a television repairman, using his mechanical skillfulness, which he took pride in; and
WHEREAS, Johnnie is survived by his wonderful children; Linda Bruce, Fannie Easter, Joni Bell, Harold (Cynthia) Johnson, Troy Johnson, Nancy Sangster, and Irene McCrory; four devoted sisters, Dorothy Whitten, Everleana Jenkins, Fannie Jackson and Lurlene Smith; two dedicated brothers, Joe Jackson and Elvis Jackson; and 23 grandchildren, along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family and treasured friends; and
WHERAS, A doting father and grandfather, Johnnie relished time with his family. He took pleasure in bowling and camping. He will be deeply missed but the memory of his character will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, The Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this thirteenth day of March, 2019, A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Johnnie Johnson Jr. and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
