MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR JACKIE MOSLEY BUTLER
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Jackie Mosley Butler, most beloved citizen, to his eternal reward on February 18, 2019 at the age of sixty-nine; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and
WHEREAS, Jackie was born in Quitman County, Mississippi, on September 20, 1949 to loving parents, the late Jack and Willie Mae Butler; and
WHEREAS, Jackie moved to Chicago in the early 1960's where he met his soon to be beloved wife, Hilda Mae Terrell. When Jackie first saw Hilda, he told his best friend Calvin Johnson that he was going to marry her. Jackie and Hilda were married on March 25, 1970, and were blessed with two sons; and
WHEREAS, Jackie attended Richard T. Crane High School and Illinois State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. While at 1SU, Jackie joined the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men, founded in 1906 at Cornell University. They provide support for African-Americans facing educational and social prejudice in higher education. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity laid a firm foundation principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character and the uplifting of humanity; and
WHEREAS, During the course of his life, Jackie worked at the Metropolitan Correctional Facility, Elkay Manufacturing, and Cook County, his last job before his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Jackie was a dedicated family man with a generous and loving nature. His sons, Duane and Omar, credit their father for serving as a consistent role model in how to become good and caring men; and
WHEREAS, Jackie was a strong community supporter. For several years he served as a precinct captain for 34th Ward Democratic Organization, helping to meet the needs of ward constituents. He was well known through...
