ORDINANCE

 

 

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:

 

 

 

SECTION 1. Chapter 18-29 is hereby amended by adding new section 18-29-605.4.2 underlined as follows:

 

18-29-605.4.2.      Reuse of Existing Service Pipe.

In the event of reconstruction, substantial rehabilitation, or conversion of a building to a new use, the existing service pipe serving the premises may be reused if the pipe is of sufficient capacity, is not made of lead, and in appropriate condition to be reused. Otherwise, the service pipe must be replaced with lead-free pipe in accordance with Section 18-29-605.4.1. Any person who violates this section shall be fined not less than $200.00 nor more than $500.00 for each offense.

SECTION 2. This ordinance is effective for all reconstruction, rehabilitation, or conversion of buildings to new uses begun after December 31, 2019.
