MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR MILDRED J. WILEY
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Mildred J. Wiley, most beloved citizen, to her eternal reward on March 26, 2019; and
WHEREAS, this august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th ward; and
WHEREAS, born on December 17, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, Mildred was the adored daughter of the late George Jordan and Faytonia Rhodes. She was a proud graduate of Providence St. Mel High School and Lewis University. Mildred leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and a member of Claire UMC under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Carter. She later moved her membership to Resurrection Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Robyn Tabb; and
WHEREAS, In 1978, Mildred met and married the love of her life, Houston Wiley, and blessed with two beautiful children. She was a kind, protective, loving mother who created a warm and safe home environment and gathering place for all in need; and
WHEREAS, Mildred had a strong belief in God and the power of prayer. She worked tirelessly at Bethel New Life for twenty-five years and concluded her work history at the Institute Nonviolence Chicago as a Community Organizer; and
WHEREAS, Mildred served on numerous boards throughout the city of Chicago and was well respected in the Austin and Garfield communities. She committed herself to the improvement of schools in disenfranchised communities and the healthy growth of neighborhoods of color in the city of Chicago. This barely captures the enormous contributions towards building and improving quality of life for all. She took on the challenges with a quiet dignity, ferocious passion and relentless determination; and
WHEREAS, Mildred leaves to cherish her precious memories; her husband, Houston; son, Corey; daughter, Colby; grandson, Joseph Robinson; her mother, Faytonia Fair; sisters, Laverne Emir and Carlella Rogers; brother, Peter (Shaun)...
