Resolution Recognizing the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases 100th annual
meeting in Chicago
WHEREAS, Chicago has long been a meeting place for innovation in a wide range of fields and industries, serving as the cradle of American ingenuity; and
WHEREAS, Since 1920 the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases (CRWAD) has held its annual meetings in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The CRWAD provides a forum for scientists from around the world to address diseases of domestic animals; and
WHEREAS, Much of our modern world is based on the foundation of our ability to safely raise, care for and utilize the products of domestic animals; and
WHEREAS, Diseases, such as tuberculosis and brucellosis, pose a grave risk to the animals and human health; and
WHEREAS, The conversations, innovations and collaborations born through CRWAD has helped humanity keep domestic animals and itself safe for the past century; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception the CRWAD has met in downtown Chicago at a series of iconic hotels, such as the Sherman Hotel, Palmer House, Hotel Maryland, Hamilton Hotel, Midland Hotel, LaSalle Hotel, Congress Hotel and Marriott Magnificent Mile; and
WHEREAS, During the November 2019 meeting CRWAD, and we as a City, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of this conference with a gala meeting featuring an array of outstanding speakers on animal and human health from around the world: and
WHEREAS, Alderman Joseph A. Moore of the forty ninth ward brought this momentous occasion to the attention of the Chicago City Council: and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this tenth day of April, 2019, do hereby recognize the CRWAD and its participants in declaring November 3rd as "Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases Day" in Chicago; and
