Congratulations to American Writers Museum
WHEREAS, ON WORD 2019, an inaugural event to support the American Writers Museum, will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this significant occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Peter Sagal, author and host of NPR'S Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, will serve as Master of Ceremonies this prestigious event and joined by Marie Arana, "Friend of the Writer" Honoree; and

WHEREAS, the American Writers Museum (AWM) mission is to celebrate the enduring influence of American writers on their history, their identity, their culture, and their daily lives. As the only museum devoted to American writers and their works, AWM connects visitors with their favorite authors and writings from more than five centuries, while inspiring the discovery of new works of every type - poetry, lyrics, speeches, drama, fiction, nonfiction, journalism and more; and

WHEREAS, the authors and works AWM present are not meant to be a definitive list of who is the greatest or most influential. Instead, the Museum presents authors and works as part of a continuum that will grow and change; and

WHEREAS, the American Writers Museum owes its existence to the vision, passion, and tenacity of its founder, Malcolm O'Hagan, who strongly believed that America's great writers deserve a home all their own. Representatives from Mayer Brown's Pro Bono Law Firm offered immeasurable wisdom and guidance throughout the creation of the museum. The Museum's mission is furthered by the Chicago Council for the American Writers Museum, a group of dedicated professionals who plan and host fundraising events and raise awareness for the Museum; and
