^Qh@¥BClS ' Mr- Mar'( Busiak has been a lifelong Chicagoan, dedicated resident of the 43rd Ward for over 20 years and a member of the Lincoln Central Neighborhood Association; and

 

WHEREAS, In August 25, 1974, Mark Busiak began his running career as a Freshman at Gordon Tech High School in Chicago, where in 1977 he became a Chicago Catholic League Cross Country Ail-Star; and

 

WHEREAS, On November 17, 1979, at 19 years of age, while running only his 2nd career Marathon, Mr. Busiak ran 2:49:38 at the Hinsdale Marathon to quaiify for his first Boston Marathon; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark has a BS in Marketing, an MBA in International Business and was a DePaul University Student Athlete and Letterman in Cross Country and Track; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Busiak has 45 years of running and coaching experience and 120,000+ lifetime miles in 62 lifetime marathons while competing throughout the United States and Internationally; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark Busiak is Program Director and Head Coach of THE ROAD TO BOSTON Training Program and has presented hundreds of seminars and written articles to educate and encourage runners to achieve their best performance; and

 

WHEREA, Mr. Busiak is currently ranked in the 'Top 10' of Boston's active list of most consecutive Boston Marathons which are 39 and'counting, a State of Illinois record, and is the only Illinois member of Boston's Quarter Century Club, serving as Vice President; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Busiaks most significant Boston Marathons were in 1983, when he ran 2:30:25, 2007 and completed his 27th consecutive Boston Marathon less than 11 weeks after open heart surgery at Northwestern Medicine, and 2018, in terrible weather conditions of pouring rain, strong winds, and temps in the low 40's, he completed his 39th consecutive Boston Marathon less than 5 months after a complete hip replacement surgery at Northwestern Medicine; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Mark Buciak heads to Boston to participate in his 40th consecutive Boston Marathon; now, therefore

 

8£ IT RESOLVED, That we, The Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of April, 2019, dp hereby proclaim our good will and send our best wishes to Mr. Mark Busiak for his continued and outstanding achievement, and show our pride in having him as a 43rd Ward resident, and a "Made in Chicago" citizen of this municipality, representative of hard work and dedication to an endeavor that inspires all people of our great city; and

 

BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mr. Mark Buciak as a token of our honor and respect.
