RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1991, Vicki Bertucci-Elmore and her family had a vision to open their own quick-serve hot dog restaurant after working for their sister Tina & her husband at Lucky Dogs in the suburbs; and,
WHEREAS, In August 1991, the Dog Stop opened its doors at 6100 W Belmont, to become a neighborhood tradition and a Chicago favorite. They specialize in Vienna Hot Dogs and Polish (Chicago style, of course), gyros with their homemade garlic sauce, homemade Italian Beef, and currently carries over 70 varieties of homemade soups while continuing to develop new sandwiches; and,
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Dog Stop has been a great asset to the community, sponsoring many park district softball and little league teams, working with CAPS and other events with the Chicago Police Department, and received a Recognition Award and Most Outstanding Business Award from the Commander of 25th Police District; and,
WHEREAS, The Dog Stop has always supported the first responders. They donate food yearly to the St Baldrics Day, sponsor teams and events, and give away free food and hotdogs to local schools, such as Fenwick, St Patrick, St Ferdinand, and Chicago Academy, just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, During the past few years, the Dog Stop has sponsored the 30th Ward's annual Christmas Toy drive, giving away free hotdogs and fries to anyone bringing in a toy; and,
WHEREAS, After finishing his MBA and working in other fields, Vicki's oldest son, Joe, has now returned and taken on partnership at the Dog Stop. He brings with him fresh and new ideas while running the day to day operations; and,
WHEREAS, In 2006, the Vienna Beef company created an award to honor those hot dog restaurants that have achieved longevity and developed into true neighborhood landmarks. Hot dog restaurants and their owners become eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame based on a variety of criteria, including how long they have been representing Vienna Beef products, contributions to their comm...
