RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Strides for Peace is hosting the Race Against Gun Violence on the evening of June 6lh, 2019, at 6:30 PM at Grant Park; and

 

WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Ariel Reboyras, Alderman of the 30th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Strides for Peace was founded in response to the high incidence of gun violence that has been occurring in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The organization's mission is to identify and financially assist local community partners who have achieved demonstrable success in an array of strategies and programs needed to reduce violence and improve life outcomes; and

WHEREAS, The Race Against Gun Violence was launched by Strides for Peace in 2014 to bring the community together to show the world that Chicago can come together to solve the problem of gun violence and save lives; and

 

WHEREAS, The race is a rallying point to raise funds and awareness about what is being done to reduce gun violence and build futures for Chicago's youth; and

 

WHEREAS, The date was chosen to promote solidarity with others in the urgent need to reduce gun violence and to bring the members of the Chicago community together to create a solution; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this twentieth day of May, 2019, do hereby extend our recognition for the Race Against Gun Violence hosted by Strides for Peace.
