BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Section 8-32-060 of the Municipal Code of Chicago is amended by inserting the language underscored, as follows:
8-32-060. Designation of noise sensitive and monitoring zones.
The superintendent of police is authorized to prepare recommendations to be approved by the city council for the designation of noise sensitive zones which contain noise sensitive activities. Existing quiet zones shall be considered noise sensitive zones until otherwise designated. Noise sensitive activities include, but are not limited to, operations of schools, libraries open to the public, churches, hospitals and nursing homes.
The superintendent of police is authorized to install a noise monitoring system upon any portion of the roadway, known as Lake Shore Drive. A monitoring system means an automated noise monitor capable of recording noise levels 24 hours per day and 365 days per year with computer equipment sufficient to process captured audio data. Twelve months after the installation of noise monitoring system, and any time after the first report to the city council deems necessary, the superintendent of police will prepare a noise monitoring report with the data collected from the system shall, upon request, make the report available to the public.
